Graduated from Clausthal University of Technology (1973); Professor of Applied Geophysics at Rheinische Friedrich-Wilhelms-Universität Bonn (1985-1987), Professor of Geophysics at Freie Universität Berlin (1987-2003) and since 2003 Professor of Geophysics and Geoinformation at Christian-Albrechts-Universität zu Kiel - retired in 2014. Visiting professor at the universities of Concepción (Chile) and Buenos Aires (Argentina). Guest residencies at Stanford University, the US Geological Survey (USA), Universidad de Buenos Aires (Argentina) and Antofagasta (Chile) and Geoscience Australia (Canberra, Australia).

Current activities and projects

  • Deformation patterns in relation to the deep configuration of the lithosphere of the Alps and their forelands – DEFORM (DFG project, 2021 – 2023, GFZ, U Mainz & CAU Kiel)
  • Guest scientist and software developer, Section 4.5 - Subsurface Process Modelling, GFZ Potsdam (IGMAS+)
